Blackpool

All the fun of the Fair


Blackpool has been a favourite holiday destination since the Victorian times; Blackpool is a traditional English seaside town.

Along the Golden Mile there are Amusement arcades and crazy golf courses and all manner of stalls and attractions with plenty of fresh fish ‘n’ chips shops and shops selling Blackpool rock, you won’t go hungry as you walk along.

As you walk along the prom you will be tempted into having your palms read and fortunes told, you can play bingo or visit the waxwork and the Sea life Centre or the fantastic waterpark at the front of south pier.

In its heyday Blackpool was host to thousands of mill workers who descended on the place during the Wakes week, which was the traditional holiday period for the mills. Train after train would arrive packed with would be holidaymaker’s intent on enjoying their break away from the unpleasant conditions of the mils and the industrial towns of the north-west.

Blackpool still has most of the attractions that made it famous including the old-fashioned ones that kids still enjoy, building sandcastles on the 5-mile long sandy beach punch and Judy and donkey rides, ice creams on the promenade.

The fairground or pleasure beach has now changed with the times and hosts a huge variety of rides and thrills that all the family can enjoy. The Pepsi Max or Big One as it is known was once the largest roller coaster in the world. As you look up at the first sheer death-defying drop and hear the screams, it is easy to understand why the builders consulted nearby Blackpool Airport about the height.

Blackpool is blessed with three piers each having its own attractions but it is the Iconic tower that everybody knows so well it can be seen for miles around it houses a circus and a host of other attractions with its famous ballroom and cinemas it is the ideal destination for a rainy day. If you are feeling brave, you can venture to the top, look out across the Fylde coast, and enjoy the stunning views across miles and miles of coastline.

As well as its main attractions, Blackpool is also known for its famous illuminations the spectacular light show is on every year from October through to December. Passenger laden vehicles stream into the town to drive along the Golden mile, which is lit up with fantastic displays and tableaus. The town still has its famous trams, which ply up and down the promenade, during the illuminations these are lit up as well and made to look like ships or railway trains; the town still has its horse-drawn open carriages, which are still a firm favourite.

These days the town has also become something of a focal point and destination for hen nights and stag nights with people travelling from all over the country to the Las Vegas of the north-west.

Blackpool with its attractions old and new a huge range of accommodation is still a worthwhile destination for a holiday or short break having everything you will need for all the family to enjoy.
