Clitheroe fine food mecca
Sat high above the town on a Limestone outcrop Clitheroe castle looks out over the surrounding countryside and Pendle hill. The Norman castle and small keep gives great views across the surrounding area. Next to the castle there is a museum and café the castle is set In a landscaped park and has pleasant walks.
The castle was built by the De lacy family before passing to the dukes of Lancaster, during the English Civil War the castle was briefly held by the royalists.
The town of Clitheroe itself has many fine shops and is something of a mecca for those interested in fine food. The town has its own coffee roasters as well as an outstanding wine shop reputedly the biggest outside of London.
The many independent shops make for a Great day, for those interested in browsing there is an excellent bookshop also.
Clitheroe has a reputation in the art circles by being home to fine galleries and studios check out the platform gallery by the station. Recharge your batteries in one of the many cafes and restaurants on the high street before your next shopping foray.
