Carnforth

A brief encounter

For film buffs this place has to be on your list more specifically the Station to view the clock which is still there.

This small Lancashire town was the setting for the David Lean film brief encounter and visitors from across the globe visit the small station to see the famous clock and tea room that were the setting for the meetings of Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson.

The film was shot in this location as it was well away from London and the blitz which was happening at the time.

There is a small room were Miss Johnson rested in between takes, on the mantle piece there is a letter home written by the star at the time.

It describes one of the hazards of shooting in a train station and her observation's of the staff and their kindness towards her.

The café serves excellent food and refreshments the food is prepared on site by the chef.
