Ilfracombe

Ilfracombe is the largest holiday resort on the north Devon coast it is built in terraces clinging to the steep sided cliffs that rise from the shoreline it is very dramatic. The waterfront has small walkways leading down to compact size, sand and shingle beaches the pretty historic harbour lined is with steep streets.

The place was popular in Victorian times when the well to do came to bathe in the tidal pools. Today these are still popular as the tunnelsbeaches, along with the crazy golf and usual tourist attractions. Along the promenade you will find tourist shops as well as formal gardens, there are now many smart and chic places to eat and stay.

The medieval chapel to St Nicholas the patron saint of sailors stands on a rock at the harbour entrance.

The aquarium is beautifully designed and all manner of aquatic environments can be seen along with the varied sea life that can be seen in the waters off the coast.
