The town of Poole once the abode of pirates, sailors, smugglers and all manner of Maritime folk developed as a port in the 13th century.It is the second largest natural harbour in the world after Sydney harbour and is the largest in Europe.

Now it is very much a tourist destination due in no small part to its beautiful beach the sandbanks.

Located between Bournemouth and the World heritage Jurassic coast the town has a lot to offer visitors and classes itself as a resort for all seasons.

If its beaches your after Poole has its share, other beaches include shore road, Flaghead chine,Canford cliffs,Branksome chine and Branksome Dene chine.

A 2-mile stretch of land winds around the harbour and borders some of the most expensive real estate in the world. The beach however is free with all types of water sports and activities available to the holidaymaker including kite surfing, windsurfing, kayaking and sailing this coupled with the excellent water quality make this a popular choice.

The old Georgian town is a quaint mix of beautiful old buildings and a picturesque harbour the quayside is dotted with great places to eat and fine old pubs. The waterfront museum is a great place to spend a few hours with a remarkable 2300 year-old Iron Age log boat one of the biggest ever found. Other fine buildings include the old guildhall the Tudor, King Charles pub, the old customs house and harbour office.

Poole harbour is also famous in the scouting world as Brownsea Island, which sits in the bay, was the location for Lord Baden Powell’s first ever scouts camp. The island which is owned by the National trust can be reached by a regular ferry service.
