The three great honey coloured towers of Lincoln Cathedral soar majestically over the city below sitting high on the limestone ridge the buildings around it cascade down towards the river Witham.

The city of Lincoln grew rich on the wool trade with Europe later it was a centre for engineering nowadays the city is a popular tourist destination to see this magnificent cathedral and wander around the old cathedral quarter

There is a wealth of history in the town from Roman, Saxon, Viking and later the Normans. These later invaders left their mark most completely with the Cathedral and castle

Take a walk along the streets of Lincoln towards the steep hill on your way you pass the High Bridge which spans the River Witham lined with medieval building’s this is the only surviving example of a bridge with shops the original London Bridge being the other.

Just a stone’s throw away is the 500-year-old Tudor Gothic Stonebow Gate, and farther up the hill is the Jews house once the oldest inhabited domestic house in Europe.

On top of the Hill is the castle and nearby the bishop’s palace, after you browse the shops relax in the cathedral grounds. In the grounds, there is a fine statute to Lincolnshire’s famous son Alfred Lord Tennyson who was born in Somersby.

Down the hill visit the usher art gallery where there are many fine exhibits including works by turner.
