Bath

Romans and Crescents


No visit to the West Country is complete without a trip to Bath the Romans called it Aqua Sulis, there is so much to see in this remarkable city and one time Georgian resort.

From the moment you enter the Pump Room and Roman baths you can feel the history all around you, look up to the roof and admire the ornate work of the dome.

There is an excellent museum on the way down to the baths once down at the baths themselves you will be amazed at the colour and temperature of the natural spring water that fills this large bath children find this palace fascinating.

As you look down from the terrace into the Baths The magnificent abbey can be clearly seen a fantastic backdrop to the baths.

Once you have completed the tour of the Baths the city is full of remarkable architecture for you to explore.

On your way to visit the circus you pass the Jane Austen Centre on Gay Street which documents the life of Baths most famous resident.

Inside you can see what it was like for the author living and writing in Bath in the nineteenth century. Attractions include dressing up in period costume and exhibits, after wards relax in the tea rooms upstairs.

As you move up, Barton Street you pass Queen square, complete with its obelisk the square is flanked by some very fine buildings.

At the top of Gay Street you will find the Circus you can marvel at the design of these three storey houses and just a short walk down Brock Street, you can admire even more amazing architecture in the Georgian splendour of the Royal crescent.

Down by the River Pulteney Bridge complete with Shops spans the Avon there you will find parks and cafés to unwind.

Bath gets very crowded with visitors so if you are driving it is a good idea to use the excellent park and ride which drops you right in the heart of the city.
