Avebury a village in the Circle

The Village of Avebury is a great place to visit for those interested in stone circles. Avebury is the largest stone circle in the world.

The advantage over Stonehenge is that you can walk in the stone circle to your heart's content, touch the stones, relax and even picnic if you wish. Set within the ancient landscape it is a great experience.

Once you finish the walk around the stone circle, a delight in itself, you can pop into the village pub; The red Lion, the only pub in the world inside a stone circle. Try the traditional fish chips and mushy peas served in newspaper.

After lunch, you can explore the village and Avebury Manor, complete with beautiful gardens. This property like the stone circle is administered by the National Trust.

The Manor has a lovely Tea Room set in a beautiful room with great cakes and fine teas; all served on china and seated at tables laid out with fine tablecloths.

Just a short walk away is Beckhampton Avenue and more stones. Silbury Hill is also nearby and can be seen in the distance a 5-minute drive away.

All in all, a great day out and admission to the stone circle is free and there is a National Trust car park conveniently situated for access to the Village.
