Clyro

Clyro looks out over the river wye valley towards Hay On Wye and the brooding black mountains beyond.

This small peaceful town inspired the Reverend Kilvert to write his popular diaries when he was curate here in the nineteenth century 1865 - 1872

There is a memorial to him opposite the Baskerville arms. Nearby is a small 13th Century church as well as some pretty stone built cottages.

Arthur Conan Doyle visited friends here and it is where he got the name Baskerville to use in the famous story.

Beside the road that leads to Hay on Wye is a mound that marks the site of a Norman castle that once stood as this strategic spot guarding one of the main route into wales.

Traveling downhill from Clyro to Hay on Wye there is a great view of The Kingdom of Hay.
