Wistow


Wistow is a combination of two old villages Wistow and Newton Harcourt, there is a tiny 13th century church St Luke’s as well as a 17th-century manor house Wistow’s church is dedicated to St Wistan and stands in a beautiful park and is believed to be the spots were the Christian Prince of the Saxon kingdom of Mercia was murdered by his cousin in 849.

Wistow Hall was host to Charles I, before the Battle of Naseby later on. It passed into the hands of Dr Henry Vaughan, he was Dr to such distinguished personages as George III, the Duke of Wellington and William Pitt, it is also said he treated George IV ,William IV and Queen Victoria.
