Tenby

Tenby’s stunning location on a headland flanked on either side with four sandy beaches makes this Welsh resort very popular. The pastel coloured houses of this lovely fishing village along with the Georgian houses paint a lovely holiday picture.

The town is overlooked by a Norman castle and enclosed by medieval walls, which funnels holidaymakers along quaint cobbled streets past all manner of seaside shops, ice cream parlours and pubs during the season it is a busy and lively place, out of season it reverts back to a more genteel quiet fishing village.

The castle stands on the site of a former welsh fort Dinbych-y-Pysgod, which means the little fort of the fish. Offshore on St Catherine’s rock another fort built in 1869 Caldy island has a medieval church which contains an ogham stone which date from the 6th century.

The painter Augustus John was born here as well as the mathematician Robert Recorde who invented the = sign.
