Melton Mowbray

Pies and cheese

Melton Mowbray is well known as the home of the famous pork pie and Stilton cheese, it was also the unofficial centre for English Fox Hunting with 3 well known hunts. The town is on the rivers Wreake and Eye.

The Melton Mowbray pie is made using chopped instead of minced pork, the Stilton cheese is noted for its blue veined appearance and although named after the town of Stilton in Huntingdon where it was sold it has never been made there.

The church of St Marys is 12th – 14th century and has a 100ft spire; the Bede Alms-house is also nearby.

Be sure to visit the Ye Old Pork Pie Shop.
