Lymington

This busy yachting centre at the mouth of the river Lymington is more than just a yachting haven its wide Georgian and Victorian streets are popular with tourist’s not just yachtsmen. The town’s quaint quayside attracts plenty of visitors the cobbled street nautical shops and numerous inns make for a good day out.

The town grew as a port receiving its charter in the 1200’s it was once home to smugglers and as the nearest port to the Isle of Wight once rivalled Southampton. These days it has great places to eat and stay and it is a good base to explore the surrounding countryside and the new forest.

Lymington is also a staging post to the Isle of Wight with regular ferry services from the pier. The town comes to life on market day when the high street that stretches uphill is thronged with stalls, visitors and shoppers. At the top of the hill, there are great views back across the river.
