The market town of Chichester has been called the city beneath the downs, the capitol of west Sussex; it sits inside its almost perfect medieval walls. The town attracts many visitors due to its history and beauty originally Roman known as Noviomagus, the new city of the plain it is one of England’s oldest towns lying in one of the most beautiful corners of England.

The magnificent cathedral was built by the Normans who after 1066 took control from the Saxons, the town grew rich on the wool trade, and it prospered as a market town. Today the towns streets are lined with beautiful Georgian houses.

Roman remains are plentiful in the area and the largest roman building ever discovered in England is nearby Fishbourne Roman palace this huge complex is unique and rival’s buildings of ancient Rome in size and grandeur the 60 or so mosaics are incredible. Chichester is also famed for its harbour these days full of pleasure, craft water tours are available there is plenty of wildlife to spot such as seals and various water birds such as shelducks Mergansers as well as Teals.
