Broadstairs

The Victorian town of Broadstairs has remained a genteel and quaint resort with its small lovely beach, and relatively warm sea it has been a popular holiday destination for over 150 years.
The author Charles Dickens stayed here on many occasions between 1837 – 1859 and remarked what a nice spot Viking bay was.

The town has capitalized on this and Victorian nostalgia is very evident. At the north end of the cliffs the house where he stayed can still be seen this is where he penned parts of David Copperfield, the place is now a private residence.

The town holds a 9 day Dickens festival in late June. The dickens house museum as can be expected is the towns top attraction, the former home of Pearson Strong who was the inspiration for Betsy Trotwood, included in the items on display are letters written by the Author.
