The market town of Monmouth because of its strategic importance on the rivers Wye and Monnow and the border of England and Wales has been fought over for centuries changing hands on a regular basis.

This historical town was the birthplace of Henry V another famous son was one of the co-founders of the Rolls Royce motor company Stewart Rolls. These days it has moved with the times and is home to a recording studio that boasts such artists as Oasis and Coldplay.

As well as the castle, the town has a fortified bridge and is the UK’s only complete example of this type of bridge, another historical place worth a look is the St Thomas the Martyr church that in parts dates from 1180.
