Betws-y-Coed

This lovely little town is one of the most popular resorts in Snowdonia, in the main season the high street can get very busy indeed. It is not hard to see why, this stone built town nestles in the woods of the Gwydr forest amid some awesome scenery with three rivers the Llugwy, Conwy and Lledr all converging here; the result is a chocolate box setting that is a magnet for visitors and walkers alike.

As well as its beautiful setting it is renowned for its waterfalls the swallow falls, Conwy falls and the one flowing beneath the Ponty-y-pair or the bridge of the cauldron.

Betws-y-Coed as you can imagine attracts many outdoor enthusiasts with rucksacks and boots to be seen everywhere. The town has so many outdoor equipment shops that they outnumber other retailers.

The place has been Wales’s most popular resort since the Victorians when a group of artists founded a community here, the arrival of the steam railways completed the picture.

The Conwy Valley Line now connects Betws-y-Coed and Blaenau Ffestiniog so you can take a trip by train to visit the slate mines.

Places of interest nearby include:

Gwydr forest, which has numerous walks and biking trails.

Llyn Crafnant a beautiful mountain lake.

Capel Curig the gateway to the mountains of Snowdonia.
