Jedburgh

As with most border towns Jedburgh was fought over by the Scots and English, the town’s castle built by the English changed ownership several times eventually being destroyed by the Scots in 1409 to deny the English its use.

Today Jedburgh is an attractive town and well worth exploring with its narrow little wynds and alleys and restored old buildings. Jedburgh Abbey was founded in the 12th century and like the castle was destroyed in the border conflicts, today you can wander round the ruins and admire the lovely stone work and carvings.

Nearby The beautiful Mary queen of Scots house is now a museum it is here that the queen stayed after her famous journey to visit her future husband the earl of Bothwell who was injured at the time.
