The little capitol of moray the town of Elgin was very important in medieval times the area was an ancient Celtic earldom note for its farmlands and climate.

The main attractions here are the many distilleries of nearby speyside the local barley was once used extensively in the distilleries.

The beautiful atmospheric ruins of Elgin cathedral are a must see, the place once known as the lantern of the north was built in 1224 they are ranked as the most beautiful in Scotland.

The place was burned down by the wolf of Badenoch the illegitimate son of Robert II following a dispute with the bishop of Moray. Elgin museum has some great Pictish carvings and fossils.
