This historic town is noted for its famous Abbey the town is the one of fifes main centres. King David founded the Benedictine abbey. The place was chosen as a last resting place of many nobles but the most famous being Robert the Bruce whose remains were found here in 1818.
Although in ruins, the Abbey is very interesting and atmospheric with some fine Gothic and Romanesque details.
Dunfermline was the birthplace of Andrew Carnegie and Charles I of England.
