Kilmartin Glen
Loch Awe once spilled water through this atmospheric place leaving deposits on the valley floor that made it good farming land. It was occupied by farmers as far back as prehistoric times and now has the richest concentration of prehistoric sites in Scotland.
The area is littered with burial mounds cairns and all manner of stone circles hill forts and standing stones there are over 25 sites containing standing stones many with rock carvings.
This part of argyle was settled by the Irish forming the kingdom of Dalriada; eventually uniting with the Picts, they created the kingdom of Scotland.
