Ullapool

Ullapool

The town was once a main centre for fishing; in 1788, it was selected as the site for a model fishing harbour to compete with European vessels. This was successful until the industry declined in the 1990’s, today the place is heavily reliant on tourism as well as being a ferry terminus.

Nestling on the shores of Loch Broom Ullapool is the gateway to the remote northwest tip of the highlands of Scotland, although not the easiest place to reach situated on the jagged coastline it is well worth the effort. The whole region is full of bays beaches and inlets that are great to explore with not a soul in site.

Nearby visit Corrieshalloch Gorge and the dramatic falls of Measach and the impressive suspension bridge high above the rising mists, cross it if you dare.
