The pretty village of Alloway is a mecca for burns fans as it here that he was born on 25 January in 1759.

The Burns museum has all manner of burns related items including manuscripts and personal possessions. The admission ticket also covers entry to burns cottage a thatched building next door which includes his childhood bed.

Close by to the museum is the Auld Kirk ruins which was used as a setting in Tam o Shanter, the poets father is buried here.

Other sites of interest include the memorial near the Auld brig o Doon this monument is styled like a Grecian temple and contains two bibles said to have been exchanged between the poet and highland Mary his sweetheart.
