Boston

The town of Boston has a namesake far away across the Atlantic, in the 1630s a decade after the mayflower sailed another group of Puritans left from Boston for America the Netherlands and religious freedom. On reaching Massachusetts they founded Boston USA.

The ancestors of John Quincy Adams the 6th US president were from the town. Ironically the success of these emigrants and settlers in America made west coast ports more practical and Boston declined as a port.

The town has many medieval buildings such as the 15th century guildhall where the puritans where imprisoned, but the towns crowning glory is the magnificent 14th century St Botolphs church also known as the Boston stump who’s tower can be seen for miles in the flat landscape.
