Chipping Norton


The charming and busy town of chipping Norton is a great place to explore without the crowds, there are many little side streets and alleyways where you can admire the beautiful Cotswold stone buildings in relative peace. The town is the highest in Oxfordshire at 646 feet, the towns iconic Victorian mill can be seen from a distance.

The market place is an attractive mix of Georgian buildings and old coaching inns, in Church Street there is a row of attractive alms-houses provided by Henry Cornish and at the end of the lane the lovely church of St Mary this is a lovely old wool church with a fine 15th century nave.

The pride of the town however is the Victorian Bliss mill that looks more like a stately home than a factory it is now flats. This reminder of the industrial past was built by the Lancashire architect George Woodhouse in 1872, the mill produced tweed.
