The town is the southern access point to Exmoor National Park nestling in the Bartle valley near the confluence of the rivers Exe and Barle.
The town is popular with country types its shops cater for Fishing enthusiasts and Hunters as well as having the usual gift shops and stores.
The area has some lovely walks the Tarr steps is a nice walk form the town, this ancient stone clapper bridge is a favourite with calendar companies.
