Battle
The town of Battle owes its veritable existence due to the events of 1066, the town grew around the hillside location of Williams’s victory against Harold, these days it is invaded by visitors all going to see the famous site and visitor centre. In October especially the place is very busy as there is a re-enactment of the battle.
Nearby Battle abbey now just ruins has a plaque marking the spot where Harold fell, the ruins are atmospheric and worth visiting.
Nearby is Yesterday’s World a retail museum complete with old shops, the museum displays old products, signs and other memorabilia.
