Kilmarnock’s most famous son is known the world over, John Walker a grocer who devised a blend of whisky in 1820 and sold it as Johnnie Walker, the town of Kilmarnock is now home to a large bottling plant.
The town also has associations with Robert Burns’ his poetry collection Poems chiefly in the Scottish dialect were published here in 1786 by John Wilson.
Kilmarnock is also home to an impressive museum The Dick institute this fine building was built on funds donated by James Dick who was born in Kilmarnock but lived in Australia.
Interesting destinations nearby include Dundonald castle and Rowallan castle.
