Furry dance and Tin


The town of Helston is well known for its traditional furry dance, this annual event welcomes in spring accompanied by dancing through the streets of the town.

Helston is a typical Cornish town once a port till the harbour silted up and then an administrative centre for tin mining. The town is a mixture of granite and slate buildings interspersed with alleyways and small streets lined with quaint shops.

The town is popular with tourists and makes a good base for touring the area and lizard peninsular, the Lizard lighthouse is Britain’s most southerly tourist attraction.

Nearby the Poldark mines have visitor tours where you can see what conditions were like for the tin miners. Other visitor attractions include is also a seal sanctuary and the Flambards experience a recreated Victorian village.
