Tetbury

The small Cotswold town of Tetbury was once a prominent wool town and the rich architecture of the buildings and streets reflect this past. Gothic buildings, town houses, and attractive cottages interspersed with the many curio, vintage interior and antique shops make Tetbury a popular spot for shopping.

HRH Prince Charles Highgrove estate is nearby, as is Gatcombe Park home to Princess Anne. The Prince also has his own Highgrove shop on Long Street where the proceeds of which go to his charity the princes trust.

The 17th century market house in the centre of the town is raised on pillars and is quite large, close by is the splendid Georgian Gothic St Mary the virgin church, other notable buildings are the medieval weavers cottages on chipping steps.

Tetbury is also known for its annual woolsack race, held every May bank holiday where contestants run up a steep hill carrying a 60 lb woolsack.
