In 1973 the counties of Northern Ireland were re organised into 6 large counties County Down which is one consists of parts or wholly of the following old counties.
Ards
Banbridge
Castlereath
Craigavon
Down
Lisburn
Newry and Mourne
North Down
The county has many beautiful areas of scenic contryside in particular the Mountains of Mourne, as well as a pretty coatline it also borders Strangford Lough.
Irelands Patron, Saint Patrick is reputedly buried in Down cathedral grounds, his grave is marked by a slab of granite from the Moutains of Mourne.
