Barra Barraigh

Barra is an island in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland it is the second southernmost inhabited island of the Outer Hebrides after the adjacent island of Vatersay, to which it is connected by a causeway.

The Island may be small just 14 miles in circumference but it is a beautiful place to visit with its beautiful deserted beaches the flower covered hills and the abundance of wildlife.

To get a great view of Barra climb to the top of Heaval near Castlebay which is the largest village on the island; Castlebay takes its name from Kisimul castle the ancestral home of clan MacNeil.

The big strand or Traigh mor beach acts as the islands airport, if you are in the vicinity look out for low flying aircraft.
