The county of Surrey in southeast England borders the southern edge of London.
Surrey was once part of the Saxon Kingdom later it was taken by the Mercian’s and lastly by the kingdom of Wessex.

Its location at the heart of the Kingdom reputedly kept it safe from major conflict although it has witnessed the passing of armies through its lands. Surrey due to its s proximity to the capitol is an affluent county with a mainly service-based economy closely tied to that of London.

The county is full of diversity with market towns, picturesque villages, woodlands, chalklands and heaths. It has many interesting locations to visit such as Thorpe Park, Polsden lacey, Virginia Water and for the history buff Runnymede Meadow.

There are castles such as Farnham and Guildford but by far the most famous Historic destination has to be Hampton Court Palace, Chessington Zoo is a favourite of children.

The downs in Surrey are world famous as a centre for Horse racing and the most prestigious flat race The Derby takes place at Epsom, other famous racecourses include Kempton Park, Sandown and Lingfield.

Good centres for shopping can be found in Guildford, Woking and Dorking.
Surrey is famous for film locations and Bourne woods have been the scene of many Blockbusters including Harry Potter, Gladiator, Thor, Ink heart and Sherlock Holmes to name a few.

The lovely town of Godalming featured in the film the Holiday with Jude Law and Cameron Diaz.
