West Sussex


West Sussex is a beautiful county on the south east coast of England.

The natural beauty of this county and diversity of scenery is marked by the fact that over half the county is protected countryside.

This natural beauty and protected status means that large parts of the county offer several outdoor pursuits and other activities for visitors such as cycling walking and hiking opportunities.

The kingdom of Sussex was founded in about AD477 it was eventually added to the Kingdom of Wessex later it was spilt into what we know as East and West Sussex. The name Sussex is reputedly old English for South Saxons.

The county has many interesting places to visit and things to do from the cities like Chichester with its cathedral to many seaside destinations like Bognor or Littlehampton.

The county has numerous country houses and annual events to entertain visitors and hosts several major national events like the all England Jumping event at Hickstead and the Horse races at Goodwood.

Other places of interest include Arundel Cathedral and castle, also Hever castle and a dazzling array of stately homes and parks.
