The North West

Lakeland fells Lowry & The Beatles


The North West of England comprises the Counties of Lancashire, Cumbria and Cheshire along with Merseyside and the Greater Manchester areas.

The South of this region has a proud industrial heritage of coal mining and shipbuilding and was once the global producer of cotton which was produced in the many mills of the area these have since been mostly demolished except for a few surviving examples. The many chimneys of these mills were made famous by the painter T.S. Lowry.

Travel to the North and you are in Cumbria Perhaps one of the most scenic and beautiful Counties of England this area is known as the Lake District and a paradise for any one into the Great outdoors. It is a magnet for artists and photographers with picture opportunities at every bend in the road the scenery of lakes and mountains is simply Stunning. The beauty of this area has been made famous by Artists writers and poets such as William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.

To the south in Cheshire lies the city of Chester, this was once the roman settlement Deva.

There are city walls and roman remains as well as some charming streets to shop in with some fine examples of medieval Architecture where you can shop in the famous Chester Rows.

Liverpool is the home of the Merseybeat and the Beatles, this is a pleasant city to explore with something for all the family.

Travel eastward's to Manchester and visit the Trafford centre an experience for all the family

This region has many interesting destinations as well as Liverpool, Manchester and Chester,other notable cities include Lancaster, Preston and Carlisle.
