Morcambe Bay

Morecambe like a lot of other seaside resorts has suffered with the change in tastes of holiday destinations and the introduction of the package holiday.

However in recent years the town has experienced something of revival and although it will never again see the sights of thousands of Lancashire mill workers descending on it every summer. It still has plenty to offer first and foremast the magnificent view across the bay towards the Lake District fells is hard to beat anywhere.

The town has looked-for other ways to regain some of its past glory and the Vintage by the Sea event did much to show that its regeneration is under way.

The Vintage- by-the- Sea festival saw thousands of people flock to Morecambe and the magnificent Midland hotel to parade in their vintage costumes and vehicles.

The Midland Hotel is a magnificent Art Deco Building with an amazing past and can boast notable past guests such as members of royalty and Wallis Simpson. The hotel was regularly used by stars performing at the Local winter Gardens.

Across the road from the hotel is the Morecambe Visitor Information Centre which is housed in the Platform The old railway station.

There is still a pleasant stroll to be had along the promenade with plenty of places to eat and drink, as well as shops to explore and plenty of sand for the kids to make sandcastles.

Check out the Old Pier Book Shop you can get lost in there for days with thousands of second-hand books to choose from.
Morecambe Bay is a birdwatchers paradise with something to see all year round.
