Brixham

The town of Brixham is one of Devon’s if not England’s busiest fishing ports; the place is picturesque with pastel coloured cottages leading down to the lovely harbour. The winding streets and the boats in the harbour all add to the seaside resort experience with gift shops and amusement arcades aplenty.

Down in the harbour the greatest attraction is a life size replica of Sir Francis drakes ship the golden hind in this amazingly small by modern standards ship he circumnavigated the world on his quest for glory and treasure for Queen Elizabeth I. The full compliment would have been about 60 men all crammed together on this tiny vessel.

The Brixham heritage museum has exhibits on all things nautical including smugglers and rescues at sea, documenting the town’s sea going history.
