Great Malvern

Elgar and Spring Water

On the slopes of the Malvern Hills is a town that has undergone many changes through the centuries from its Bronze Age beginnings to the romans and the monks of the monastery and lastly as a Victorian resort and spa. Malvern today is also known for its water which is bottled and widely sold throughout the UK.

These days this pleasant town is a centre for those interested in the outdoors and exploring the hills and countryside of this lovely area. The town attracts visitors to its beautiful priory and walkers and cyclists flock here in the summer the gentle rolling hills are perfect for these activities.

Malvern was also beloved by the famous composer Edward Elgar who lived nearby you can still have a cup of tea in his favourite café the bluebird Tearooms which still serve tea today on church Street.

The enigma memorial to the great man is in sight of the tearoom at the top of the hill on Bellevue Terrace where he gazes over the surrounding area and town.

Malvern also has plenty of independent shops to explore as well as the magnificent priory, nearby is the remains of the monastery gatehouse.

St Anne’s well is just a short distance away there you can taste the mineral water that once attracted famous visitors from far and wide, these included Thomas Carlyle , Florence nightingale and Alfred Lord Tennyson.

Elgar is buried nearby in St Wulstans church at Little Malvern.
