Eastbourne

The first mental image of this pleasant seaside town is one of rows of colorful deckchairs on the prom full of elderly and retired people. The fact that it is a seaside town with a good climate obviously makes it a good choice as a place to retire.

Eastbourne is famous for its beaches as well as the nearby white cliffs and the seven sister’s country park. One of the best beaches is Falling sands beach at the foot of Beachy Head which is quieter.

The popular main beach is between the pier and the wish tower on this stretch of the shoreline you can walk along a five-mile promenade and Grand parade . Here you will find the wonderful Victorian Pier , the famous 3500 seater bandstand and the Carpet gardens as well as the grand hotel which takes pride of place on the seafront.

Eastbourne is a good place for a base to explore the surrounding countryside from here you can visit the South Downs and perhaps walk part of the South Downs way.

Other nearby places of interest include Herstmonceux castle which in august boasts a medieval weekend. Further down the coast towards Hastings is battle where William the conqueror beat Harold’s Saxon army in 1066.
