Whitstable

The lovely fishing town of Whitstable has always been popular with yachtsmen, these days it is the destination of choice for city dwellers to get away from it all.

The town was well known in roman times for its oysters, with a pleasing harbour rebuilt in 1832 the quaint streets are home to all manner of shops just waiting to be explored it is a great place to unwind.

The town is popular with artists for the beautiful sunsets over the isle of Sheppey, the shingle beach and the Main Street evoking bygone times.

There is a small museum and gallery that documents Whitstable’s oyster industry, located in a corner there is a part dedicated to Peter Cushing who was the town’s most famous resident.

The famous oysters can be sampled at local restaurants such as Wheelers Oyster bar.
