Porthgain
This picturesque little harbour belies its industrial past in the 19th century it was a busy port shipping slate and later granite and clay for building materials the name Porthgain means chisel port. The castellated hoppers and channels were used to deposit the stone directly into the ships in the harbour.
These days tourism is the main business the quarry men's cottages are now art galleries, cafes and there is a bistro in the old machine shop. The town is a popular place to stay but accommodation is limited.
