Northampton


The town of Northampton was once one of the most picturesque in the midlands before it was bombed in the war. The town was well known for the manufacture of shoes the museum and art gallery has the largest collection of footwear in the world.

Notable historic buildings include the sessions house the Victorian Gothic Guildhall and the Norman St Peters Church, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre 1100 AD is one of a few surviving round churches in the country. Northamptonshire has many old churches and a list can be obtained from the tourist information office in the guildhall.

Six mile outside the town to the west is Althorp hall last resting place of Princes Diana the house and gardens are open to the public.
