Chipping Campden has been described as the quintessential English village and the jewel of the Cotswolds. That term could be applied equally to many other beautiful Cotswold towns , Chipping Campden has a certain charm which together with the beautiful buildings and the fact that it is one of the best preserved make it a must see for visitors to the Cotswolds.

The town is important historically as it has a remarkable Market hall this was built by Sir Baptist Hicks who grew wealthy by lending money to king James I he spent his wealth on the town and as well as the famous hall he also constructed a row of alms-houses.

The church of St James is a fine wool church and nearby are the Wool-staplers hall the Town hall and Grevel house completing a picture that has not changed for centuries.

The hill above the town is also the venue for the Cotswolds Dover’s Olympicks an event sanctioned by King James I in 1612 and resurrected in 1963 this has such events as shin kicking and sack racing.
The artist and designer Landseer particularly liked Campden and T.S Elliot was a frequent visitor to nearby Burnt Norton.
