The quaint seaside village of Orford lies south of Aldeburgh it is a place with plenty of appeal, with pretty house in abundance and quiet and secluded. The castle at Orford is most unusual, although only the tower remains it is like no other in England this 12th century structure is built on a drum design with 18 sides and three great turrets it was built to control the barons, Climb to the top for great views of Orford Ness.

The village developed by Henry II was once a busy port in medieval times and was under the Bigod family who had another castle at Framlingham.
The church of St Bartholomew has hosted many performances of Benjamin Britten’s works, including Curlew River.

Orford Ness is a nature reserve under the national trust this shingle spit is the largest of its kind in Europe, ferries depart from the town on trips, there are many rare species of animals, birds and plants to be seen there.
