Salmon and a Queen

Kinross and Loch Leven are well known to anglers as it has some very fine salmon trout fishing, the history lover is also well catered for as it was in the 15th century Loch Leven castle on the island that Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned before she escaped and fled to England.

The queen of Scots was confined here by the Scottish nobility and made to relinquish her throne; this was due to bad decisions made by her.

After her escape to England Mary was imprisoned by her cousin Elizabeth I for 20 years before being charged of treason and executed. Historians agree that this was a false accusation purely to rid England’s queen of a rival.

Nearby is Kinross house a 17th century manor house set in beautiful grounds, it was built by Sir William Bruce, he was the architect who was responsible for improving Holyrood house in Edinburgh.
